What’s in a Name?

I hate my name. No one can pronounce it correctly. It’s not an uncommon name, the spelling however, is uncommon, Jonelle pronounced like Janelle. When my mom was pregnant with me, she asked my grandfather for family names. His option, Jemima Jane, didn’t quite wow my mom. I’m a December baby, my name was almost Holly Noelle (a walking cliche). They also toyed with Emily Noelle. That, I like. Instead they gave me Jonelle. The a changed the A to O to honor my dad Jose. My mom also has a cousin with my name, but she spelled it Janelle. Growing up, I always complained about my name and that no one had a name like mine. My mom said there was an actress named Jonelle Allen. I never found a key chain or toy with my name on it. I once found a mini license plate with my name spelled Jonelle, We were on vacation, I think in Arizona. Even as I type this, all of the “Jonelles” are coming up incorrect and the prompt wants me to change it to Janelle. I helped WordPress and added it to their dictionary.
